The following are the ongoing medical issues for the five elephants of Oregon Zoo, as of November 2023
Shine (Sung-Surin): 41 years, female
- Abscess in right front foot
- Degenerative Joint Disease
- Traumatic amptuation — from a fight with Samson, who bit off her tail
- Valgus deformity of right carpus
Samson: 25 years, male
- Positive DPP test for Tuberculosis
Rose-Tu: 29 years, female
- Positive DPP test for Tuberculosis
Chendra: approx. 30 years, female
- Abnormal build-up of fluid in abdomen
- Anemia
- Fluid discharge from ears
- Entropion (folded eyelid)
- Hypoproteinaemia — protein deficiency
- Phthisis bulbi (eye defect)
- Stereotypical behavior
- Cracked foot (right, front)
Samudra: 15 years, male
- Cracked nails in rear feet
- Corneal edema in eyes
- Pulpitis (inflammation in tusk)
