On March 30, 2015, 32-year old Rama was euthanized at the Oregon Zoo. He had been receiving treatment for tuberculosis for the past couple of years. The zoo has no explanation on how he contracted TB, but claims the death to be complications from a leg injury he sustained as an infant. We at FOZE are heartbroken at the loss, but feel it’s more important now than before that the other elephants do not suffer misery due to captive illnesses like Rama did.
