Every Friday in September, pair wine with tasty treats and help FOZE! Pairings, “the weirdest wine bar in Portland” is donating 5% of every purchase made on Fridays in September to Free the Oregon Zoo Elephants (FOZE). Their donation will help us further our mission to retire Packy, the zoo’s senior elephant, to a wildlife sanctuary. Help us buy a jeep for the Global Sanctuary in Brazil! Update: We did it! standard

Outreach at Zoo Concert standard

FOZE supporters shared information about the problem for elephants who are subjected to the loud music during the zoo summer concerts. This is from the K.D. Lang concert on July 2, 2016. The offsite preserve is off the table, final vote Feb. 18, 2016 standard

Metro and the Oregon Zoo made repeated statements promoting an offsite multi acre preserve, a retirement home for the elephants in the run up to the $125 million dollar zoo bond measure in 2008. You can read about that on our Myths and Facts page. After a committee  reviewed the feasibility of the facility, the Zoo and the Zoo Foundation made a presentation to Metro Council  on January 21, 2016 arguing that the offsite facility is not feasible. The reasons itemized included financial risks, transport problems, and proceeding with the project would take away from the conservation projects for the elephants at the zoo.
